Villa Pignatelli

VILLA PIGNATELLI

Villa Pignatelli is located on the Chiaia seafront and represents one of the most significant examples of neoclassical architecture in the city. The villa, commissioned in 1826 by the baronet Sir Ferdinand Richard Acton, was built by the architect Pietro Valente. In 1867 it was then sold to Prince Diego Pignatelli Aragona Cortés, Duke of Monteleone. The Pignatellis were nobles with very refined tastes and ways, so much so that they transformed the place into a cultural meeting point between intellectuals and the high Neapolitan and European aristocracy. The building is surrounded by a large Italian garden with a beautiful panoramic view of the Gulf of Naples. Inside Villa Pignatelli is located the Museo Principe Diego Aragona Pignatelli Cortés which houses a collection of period furniture, paintings, sculptures, and other decorative arts, reflecting the aristocratic life of the 19th century. The veranda, one of the most characteristic spaces of the structure, is a room rich in neo-Renaissance style finishes that overlooks the garden. Today the villa is open to the public for guided tours and its spaces are used for cultural events, exhibitions and concerts, thus maintaining its relevance as a cultural center of the city.

The violin soloist and conductor Elvin Dhimitri, the strings and the harpsichord of “Opera e Lirica” will offer the audience a spectacular concert of “
The Four Seasons by Vivaldi in Naples”, one of the masterpieces of the Italian Baroque in this splendid location.
