SOLO GUITAR: Nicola Montella

Born in 1987, he began studying classical guitar at the age of 8, specializing in 2011 at the “Domenico Cimarosa” Conservatory in Avellino under the direction of Maestro Lucio Matarazzo. After numerous advanced courses with Maestro Maurizio Colonna and Maestro Aniello Desiderio, he attended the international masterclasses of the Masters: Margarita Escarpa, Shin-ichi Fukuda, Hubert Happel, Goran Krivokapic, Carlo Marchione, Judicael Perroy.

His profitable concert activity has seen him playing an important role in famous musical shows in Italy and abroad. Among the most recent we can remember the following: Campus Internazionale di Salerno Dipartimento Chitarra (It. 2017) International Guitar Festival Sinaia (Romania 2017), Bratstvo (Bulgaria 2017), Pleven (Bulgaria 2017), Shumen (Bulgaria 2017), Varna (Bulgaria 2017), Plovdiv (Bulgaria 2017), Sofia (Bulgaria 2017), Acerra Guitar meetings (It. Acerra, ottobre 2016), Guitar Competition Winners (It. Pordenone, maggio 2016), the concerts at the Girona International Classic Guitar Festival, at the Aranda de Duero International Classic Guitar Festival (Spain 2013- 2015) and S. Giacomo Guitar Festival (Bologna-Italy 2015) ; the concerts in China in April 2015, held in some of the most prestigious Beijing’s theatre halls (Centennial Hua, Beijing University, Sunrise Concert Hall, BUAA, The Club House - Chateau Regalia, The Club House – Shadow Creek); the opening concerts); He performed with orchestra in Bulgaria (Pleven Philarmonia), in Brussels and in London (London
Simphony).
Over the years, he has been awarded during several and important national and international guitar festivals and contests. The following first prizes can be mentioned: Pleven International Guitar Competition (Bulgaria 2016); Guimarães International Guitar Festival (Portugal 2016); Sinaia International Guitar Competition (Rumania 2016); Concurso Internacional de Guitarra Villa de Aranda (Spagna, 2014); Guitar Contest “Giulio Rospigliosi” Città di Lamporecchio (March 2012); International Guitar Contest “Xmas Guitar Contest Città di Lecce - Salento Guitar Festival (December 2012).
In 2015, the Scientific Committee of the International Guitar Congress gathered in Alessandria – Italy, after a careful evaluation of his professional and artistic activity, has awarded him with the prestigious prize The Golden Guitar “For being the best international boy of promise”. In 2016 his first album, named Sonata, has been published and presented during the TV programme Primo movimento on Radio 3 (12th December 2016), hosted by Guido Zaccagnini, and during the programme Arpeggio, on Radio Vaticana (30th December 2016), with the presence of the author in the studio, interviewed by the programme’s curator Luigi Picardi; then, it has also been presented at Radio Popolare (5th January 2017), with an interview in the studio.
In 2011 he has been granted with the Avellino in music Prize as best apprentice of the Master Class on the interpretation of the works and guitar technique of Maestro Aniello Desiderio.

On September 2017 he recorded, as soloist, the “Poiesis” concert for guitar and orchestra by composer Carmine Maresca, and in December (2018) Concert in ReM by M. Castelnuovo-Tedesco with “London Symphony Orchestra” in the “Angel Studios” of London.
He has recorded as a soloist: “Poiesis Concerto”, composed by Carmine Maresca (September 2017) and the “Concerto op.99 n.1” by “Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco” with the London Symphony Orchestra, at the Angel Studios in London (September 2018 and December 2019).
Nicola Montella is also a classical guitar teacher at the “D. Cimarosa” Conservatory in Avellino.
